Senol Gunes can become the future coach of AS Saint-Etienne. The season is not over. Far from there. Pascal Dupraz must complete his mission and achieve his initial objective: to maintain AS Saint-Etienne. However, the vagueness remains most complete on the bench for next season.

In all likelihood, Pascal Dupraz will not be extended at the end of the season. Maintain or not. The Saint-Etienne board seems to be turning to a new page. A new squad with a new coach. It remains to be determined whether this page will be written in Ligue 1 or Ligue 2.

Favorite Laurent Battles?

The name of Laurent Battles has been coming up insistently for several weeks. Former player, former recruiter, former assistant to Christophe Galtier, former youth coach, “Lolo” knows the shop perfectly. He still lives in the area where he kept his house on Veauche. Free since the end of the year when he left ESTAC, Battles is popular. He raised Troyes by playing an attacking and attractive game. Several hiccups so far. He will not come back at all costs in the Forez. The former Trojan coach wants guarantees and a minimum of means. The objective is not to appear in Ligue 1 when it has a good image to date. The workforce will have to be completely renewed but what about the means available. Finally, the ex-Green had not left on very good terms with Roland Romeyer. The president of ASSE had preferred Julien Sablé to him. Battles will be on the coaching market this summer, it remains to be seen if he will return to service at AS Saint-Etienne.

A Turkish figure on the Green bench?

If the waltz of coaches that takes place every summer could shake things up, a foreign name appears surprisingly: Senol Günes.

Coach of Turkey between March 2019 and September 2021 has a lot of experience. At 70, he has been coaching since 1987. A real figure in his country, he has coached Trabzonspor, Boluspor, Istanbulspor, FC Seoul, Besiktas and the tuc selection on several occasions.

He has a well-stocked track record: 2 times Super Lig champion, 4 times runner-up, 2 Turkish cups. And a World Cup semi-final in 2002!

Currently in search of a club, his brother Bahaddina spoke about Senol Günes’ future in FotoMac. A surprising outing in which he evokes a strong interest from …. AS Saint-Etienne:

“Senol has offers from Dubai, the United Arab Emirates and Europe. Saint Etienne in particular really wants my brother”

Publicity stunt or bomb dropped by the brother of the former Turkish coach? The future will probably tell.
